The fools

All right, first month of the OWAC III, I knew that I could use the end of the winter break to paint my most populated unit:15 fools who gave up everything to follow Pieter the Pious.

As mentioned in the introduction post, my plan for this challenge is to use a wide range of Citadel models that couldn't join Pfeildorf's troops. No feather or fancy clothes here, more the medieval kind, most of the time without any piece of armour and, when necessary, equiped with wooden shields (bought years ago to Hasslefree Miniatures and unfortunately, out of production now - yep, even the accessories are OOP here!).

In terms of colors, I've made tests on a first model, slightly modified by adding a candle on the helmet, something I had seen earlier on this Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay illustration:

The Watchman - Carrier art for WFRP 4th Edition

This very ordinary "Imperial Foot Soldier" (his official name) was painted using a limited palette composed of VMC Dark Sea Blue (highlighted by VGC Bonewhite), and a few brown, grey and beige tones. I've also tried to spare some time with very simple bases: a single layer of Agrellan Earth, highlighted with VMC Tan Yellow and then Pale Sand. As I was reasonably satisfied with this first trial, I've used again and again the same tones on too many models, giving something too regular for a bunch of zealots lost in Araby.

From left to right: Harwood, Mercenary, Imperial Foot Soldier, Ernst Stoutheart and Adolf

I've tried then to change the overall look by removing the Dark Sea Blue from my palette. And whenever possible, I've added some candles to illustrate their religious inclinations. Below a few pictures of my attempts:

Mercenary and Mercenary swordsman
Altdorf Axeman and Mercenary Captain
Gunther, Albrecht and Bardach
And finally, the command group:

Marauder Citizen CZ19, Sir Monne de la Monte and Harwood

See you next month with the noblemen!

2017 re-cap

Painting

In 2017, I've focused all my efforts on the imperial army of Pfeildorf: I've reworked the 2016 flagellants, and added a second regiment of fanatics. The militia of the Guildhouse, initiated in 2016, is now complete, and I've reached my objective of achieving the 20 mandatory halberdiers. I have also added a second rank to the regiment of mercenary swordsmen.

In other words, I have painted 1 MM42 Ogre, 1 MM64 Halfling, 1 MM16 Giant Slayer, 2 MM10 Dwarfs, 2 MM73 Warhounds, 4 MM62 Citizen, 10 MM65 flagellants and 14 MM60 Fighters. And I have complemented these Marauder Miniatures by a few Citadel models: 1 donkey, 1 Standard Bearer, 2 C46 Villagers and 13 F2 Fighters/Dogs of War. In total, 52 miniatures: possibly my best year...

As you can see below, some of the painted models are already useless: the monk, the beggar and the warrior-priest are not anymore part of the flagellants, the initial standard bearer of St Quintus has been replaced, and I have two fanatics on their own.

Collecting

2017 has been an amazing year too for my collection of imperial models, with the acquisition of several unreleased Marauder Miniatures. The first one is already painted: the roman legionnaire. The other ones can be seen below:
  • a second unreleased warrior
  • a horse (used as a prototype for Empire and Chaos war horses)
  • the war altar.

Beside that, I now have the whole MM62 Citizen range but one model: CZ 28, the girl holding a goose (if you have one and want to sell it, let me know).

and Gaming!

Just kidding ^_^ I'm only using the rulebook to build the units I paint:

Let's see:
  • 272 points for Pfeildorf's militia: 32 Ersatzholder with Spears and Light Armour, including musician and standard-bearer;
  • 110 points for the mercenary swordsmen: 10 Estalian Hombres Villanos, including a standard bearer;
  • 99 points for the first unit of fanatics: 8 Fleglers with double handed weapons and a standard-bearer;
  • 99 points for the second unit of fanatics: 8 Fleglers with double handed weapons and a standard-bearer;
  • 207 points for the City Watch: 21 Helblitzen including musician and standard-bearer.
which makes only 787 points! And already two years spent on this army... Next time, I'll do High Elves :)

In the meantime, Happy holidays!

The Guildmasters of Pfeildorf and their militia

I really wanted to complete this regiment before the end of this year. As I said before, the 8 last models painted these last two weeks were meant for the rear rank, so, even if the painting is not perfect, it is barely visible :)

Enough talking, pictures! On the front rank, the Guildmasters, the shield bearers and their fiercest bodyguard. Behind them, a bunch of Marauder Miniatures (mainly from the citizen MM62 range) and a last rank of Citadel Fighters/Dogs of War designed by Aly and Trish Morrison.

And now the army points: my militiamen are equipped with spears and light armour, plus a musician and a standard bearer, which gives a total of 272 points. Less than 10% of the whole army... Sigh.

Dyer and Chauncey

The two last models to complement the militia of Pfeildorf's Guildhouse are done :). Again, they come from the Citadel Fighter F2/Dogs of War range: Chauncey (the spearman) was probably designed by Aly Morrison, and I suspect that Dyer's head results from Trish Morrison's work.

Gaston spearer and the militia man

Two models from the Citadel F2 fighters range, most probably designed by Aly Morrison. The casting for these two guys was particularly bad, and the painting job was not easy... again, I'll hide them in the last rank of Pfeildorf's militia.

Borlace and Feargus

Two new additions to the militia, from the Citadel Dogs of War range, designed by Aly and Trish Morrison. The sculpting job is sometimes odd, but they'll do the job in the rear rank :)

Cowden and Gustav

Back to Pfeildorf's militia, this time with the Citadel Dogs of War, designed by Aly and Trish Morrison. I think we can attribute Cowden to Aly, and the odd modifications leading to Gustav to Trish...

Marauder unreleased warrior #1

To conclude this last set of militiamen, a roman legionnaire, lost in the Old World. The model is an unreleased warrior from the Marauder Miniatures range, most likely scupted by Aly Morrison. A real pleasure to paint :)

And the complete set:
