The candle-knight and the grandpa knight

Couldn't end the year without finishing the guards of the White Lady with two additional models to reach my self-inflicted 12 objective.

The first guard is the Reiksguard captain model, converted by adding an ammunition pouch on the side, and replacing the plume by candles.

The second guard is an old Citadel reference, designed by one of the Perrys in the eighties, and that brought a welcome change to the usual Reiksguards.

I think I'm going to take a break before painting new Reiksguard models. However, I have found in my boxes two 80's references from the Citadel Knights of the Empire range that could join the regiment to reach my objective of 12 guards.

In the meantime, 10 elite fighters protecting the White Lady.

I probably need to deepen the shadows on the two-handed sword. And of course paint the bases...

The guards of the White Lady (part II)

Second batch of Reiksguard foot knights, including the standard bearer, a very basic conversion where the original pole was replaced by a plastic bit. 

 

The banner is an adaptation of the motifs painted on the ceiling of Louise de Lorraine's bedroom at the Château de Chenonceau: feathers, thorns, and the crowned and intertwined initials of the tragic spouses.

The guards of the White Lady (part I)

First trio of guards, all equipped with sword and shield. 

 

The armour pieces are painted using the usual colours: basecoat of VMC Dark Sea Blue and Mahogany Brown, then Formula P3 Greatcoat Grey, then VMC Light Grey, Sky Blue and white. 

I have processed the weapons differently: first a mix of VMC Neutral Grey and Field Blue, highlighted with Light Grey, Sky Blue and white, and darkened with GW Gryph-Charger Grey then very thinned black.

For the shields, I have used the royal token of Louise de Lorraine as a starting point:

After a few trials, I have switched the two feathers, and replaced the laurel wreath by the intertwined first letters of Heinrich and Adelarde de Montfort that can be seen in the room of Louise de Lorraine in the chateau de Chenonceau (the original Greek capital letter Lambda or Λ for Louise seemed to far from the Old World and the Ancient/Latin language).

I wish I was more regular in painting the feathers... anyway. 3 knights done.

Well, the initial plan was to paint a standard bearer for the 10th miniature... and it failed. Instead, an MM60 Empire fighter painted in the same colors as the MM65 Reiksguard.



Regiment completed!

Next month, war machines.

With only five available models in the MM65 range, the possibilities to include a musician are quite limited: here, I have replaced the dagger in the left hand by the sword initially held in the right hand. The drum is a bretonnian bit from the old plastic Men At Arms box, and the mallet comes from the plastic sprue of the Chaos marauders. And that's it!

Söllsguard: update and preview

I have finally touched up all the plumets of my MM65 warriors. In my opinion, the ivory-violet thing works better than the previous blue-grey-white attempts. Not perfect, but I'll stick to this new color scheme from now on.

In the meantime, I've also prepared the second batch of Reiskguards (or Söllsguards here), trying as much as possible to add variety to the same 5 models, with a musician and a standard bearer.
