Dwarf spearman #4

This time, a mini from the Citadel Norse Dwarfs range. As I'm a little bit short of shields, I've removed the boss from his left hand.

This guy concludes my December entry to the Brush Slave League.

Sadly, I won't have time to finish anything for January... which means that this is the last post of 2013. See you next year!

Dwarf spearman #3

Back to the MM10 range with this 3rd spearman. I think the shield comes from a Wargames Foundry blister I bought a looooong time ago. Unfortunately, they're not sold separately (I've just received a negative answer) and I have only 6 left to complete my regiment.

Dwarf spearman #2

Initially part of the ballista crew, I have converted this dwarf by adding a spear head from White Knight's range to enlist him in my regiment of dwarf warriors.

Dwarf spearman #1

All right, time to start a new regiment! According to my army list, I have a second unit of dwarf warriors to do, and I've decided to equip them with shields and spears.

Compared to axe, hammer or even sword, this weapon is rather rare in the Citadel range, and it's not so easy to gather a coherent group of miniatures with arms ranging from javelins to pikes. To tell the truth, I'm not sure that the band I have collected will work in its current state (I've even included one of Bob Olley's dwarves!) but I hope the shields will help to uniformise the whole. We'll see...

So, my first model is the first warrior (DW1) of the MM10 Dwarf Marauder range. Nice helmet, but the scale armour is a nightmare to paint.

Crossbowman #21

In a previous attempt to paint this mini, I had cut and repositioned the left hand to give him a better grasp on the crossbow. Sadly, I lost the original piece of metal when I cleaned off the paint, and I had to find another one. As you can see below, the result is not totally satisfying...

Still have to paint 9 of his comrades to complete my third and last unit of quarellers. Sigh...

Crossbowmen #19 and #20

Shame on me, only one post in Octobrer, this has to change! So I've finally decided to join the third season of the Brush Slave League on the Chaos Dwarfs forum. For the first month, I was able to finish three quarellers, insufficient to get the maximum points with the rules, but enough to complete my second unit of quarellers. Yipee!

First some blurry pictures (sorry about that).

And now my third completed unit...

OK... What next? Probably some dwarf warriors, this time equipped with spears and shields.

Stupid idea

Remember the posts where I was trying to encourage people to build other armies than dwarves? Well, good news... it worked!
...
On me :/

I've recently started to buy the old Jes Goodwin's skaven to make my own ratmen force. Since I totally lack imagination, I'm dutifully following the list given in WD 137 as a mail order special offer. As I am a reasonable guy (well sort of...), I've decided to focus on the battle force...which is 1500 points worth 'only'. Knowing the cost of a skaven, it means about 80 miniatures!

So, if we recap the current state of my force:
  • 1 White skaven sorcerer with halberd: got it
  • 1 Clan Chieftain with army standard: got it
  • 1 Clan Eshin Assassin: still searching the proper model to convert
  • 36 clanrats warriors: only 15 models
  • 25 skavenslaves: only 16 models, most of them armed with spears
  • 10 Gutter Runners: only 3 models
  • 3 Fire Thrower Teams: got them
  • 2 Jezzailachis Teams: got them (my favorite!)
  • 2 Poison Wind Globadiers: got them
  • 2 Beast Masters and 4 Rat Ogres: got them
So if you suffer from an excess of OOP Citadel ratmen, let me know! Below are the models I'm still looking for: the green dots are totally missing, and I don't have any spare of the uncrossed ones, so I could be interested too.

And as I couldn't finish a post without showing a single mini, here is the only skaven model I have ever painted. It was in 2005, and as you can see, there are some dwarf bits too :o)

Next time hopefully, I'll be able to show some new models.

Hammerers #8 #9 and #10

Second batch of hammerers for this month: a warrior, the standard bearer and the leader, all from the Citadel imperial dwarves range.

For the standard bearer, I've used some brass rod and the lower part of Alvaro Echeverria's flag, a Hell Dorado westerner miniature. I still have some doubts about the colours I've chosen for the leather apron: maybe a black and white schemewould have better worked with the rest of the unit.

For the leader, I've replaced the initial mace by a hammer from Hasslefree Miniatures.

And now behold the Black Boar Company in all its glory :o) (well, at least the first half)

So, after one year of blogging, I've been able to paint around 50 dwarves (50 !!!), probably three times my usual annual production. Unfortunately, I have now to move out and start a new job, and I doubt that I can keep this rythm in the next months... We'll see...
