Picks and shovels for the White Lady

A strange cult follows the army of the White Lady: they call themselves the Mourners, a gentle nickname for maniacs armed with picks and shovels, ready to kill and bury (not necessarily in this order) anyone showing not tenough respect for their deads. 

While one can easily figure out the lethality of pickaxes, using shovels as weapons may seem more dubious. Well... as Cain once said to Abel: au contraire mon frère!

For consistency, I wanted to be close to the colour scheme of the spearmen and archers, but this time, the brown tones were for the robes and not for leather. So, instead of highlighting the basecoat (VMC Chocolate Brown) with VMC Flat Earth and VGC Bone White, I have tried to soften the transitions by adding an intermediary tone, VMC US Field Drab.

And the whole band... for now!

Two new archers

Again, two miniatures lying on the desk, I had to finish them before moving to something else!

 And the resulting regiment of 12 archers:

Spearmen completed (again ?!)

Done. Again. Pushing the spearmen to 24 means that I'll probably add 2 bowmen to have a 12 archers regiment.

So happy to be done with spearmen! 😂

The last Four... and a half

I couldn't move to the next project until I painted the last models lying on my desk. 

So, here they are, two classic spearmen (with head swaps), one modified halberdier (spear and man heads replaced), and the drummer, protected by his personal bodyguard, an old Marauder Miniatures reference.

Since these guys are not supposed to be on the front rank (except the musician of course), I have used more black than white on them, quicker and easier to paint.

Finally! I can't wait to paint something else than feathers on shields 😆

I wish I was better at painting beards... 

And I should probably paint an additional quartet to align 6x4 spearmen.

Another batch of spearmen

Always a pain to reach 20 models, and consider a core regiment playable. Well, milestone reached, I can move on to my next unit 😜... unless I paint 4 more? 

In order of appearance, the champion, a converted gunman, a converted halberdier, and another spearman with head swap.

More spearmen for the White Lady

The same four models, slightly converted, and painted in the usual colour scheme, except that I have forgotten the recipe used on the bones of the previous batch. This time, I'll log things properly. So, for my now 'greyish' skulls:

• Basecoat: VMC Chocolate Brown + VMC Neutral Grey
• Highlights: GW Karak Stone, VMC Light Grey, VMC Ivory Bone
• Shades: GW Agrax Earthshade

 

We're close to the end of this regiment!
